Re:Water at Walton Heath

Re:Water at Walton Heath

At Fore! The Planet, our mission is simple: help golf clubs reduce their environmental footprint without compromising player experience. Our latest collaboration with Walton Heath Golf Club embodies that mission perfectly. Together, we’ve designed and implemented bespoke Re:Water bottles - a stylish, practical, and genuinely sustainable alternative to traditional plastic and cartoned water packaging.

Why Re:Water?
Re:Water bottles are made from 100% recycled aluminium, sourced from post-consumer waste, and they’re infinitely recyclable. Unlike single-use plastic bottles, which degrade in quality each time they’re recycled, aluminium retains its integrity indefinitely. That means your bottle could be reborn as another bottle, a bike frame, or even part of a golf club, again and again.

Walton Heath embraced the concept wholeheartedly, commissioning a custom-designed bottle that reflects their heritage and commitment to sustainability. The bottles are lightweight, resealable, and robust enough to be reused dozens of times. They’re also refillable on-site, supporting Walton Heath’s push to make hydration stations an integral part of the course experience.

The Problem with Plastic
Globally, over a million plastic bottles are sold every minute, and only a fraction are ever recycled. The rest end up in landfills, incinerators, or worse, our oceans. Golf courses are not immune to this issue: a busy club can get through thousands of plastic bottles a year, especially during peak season.

Plastic also carries a high carbon footprint. The production process is energy-intensive, relying heavily on fossil fuels, and the bottles can take up to 450 years to degrade. Even then, they break down into harmful microplastics that persist in soil and water systems.

Why Not Cartoned Water?
Cartoned water is often marketed as “eco-friendly,” but the reality is more complicated. Most cartons are made from a mix of paper, plastic, and aluminium layers that are extremely difficult to separate in standard recycling streams. This means many end up being incinerated or landfilled despite their green image.

Furthermore, paper-based packaging often comes from virgin sources, contributing to deforestation unless carefully certified. Combined with the plastic liners and caps, cartoned water is far from a perfect solution.

Sustainability Benefits of Re:Water
Switching to bespoke Re:Water bottles offers several key environmental advantages:

Infinite Recyclability – Aluminium can be recycled endlessly without quality loss.

Lower Carbon Footprint – Recycling aluminium uses 95% less energy than producing new metal.

Durability & Reuse – Each bottle is robust enough for multiple uses, reducing single-use demand.

Closed-Loop Potential – Old bottles can be turned into new ones in as little as 60 days.

Brand Alignment – Custom designs reinforce the club’s values and visual identity.

Driving Change in Golf
By choosing Re:Water, Walton Heath is setting a precedent for the golf community. They’re proving that sustainability can be practical, premium, and profitable. Members and guests appreciate the thoughtful design, the environmental impact is measurable, and the message is crystal clear: responsible choices belong on the course as much as they do in everyday life.

Fore! The Planet is proud to partner with forward-thinking clubs like Walton Heath to turn sustainability into action, one refill at a time.
